The River Frome. and Wool

It made me laugh as I have been after wool to felt.
I found myself in a village called Wool.
Living in Devon there are so many sheep around, I don't know any sheep farmers, only farmers that have herds of cows.

This is Wool in Dorset.

Thomas Hardy and Tess of the d'Urbervilles stuff.
I find Thomas Hardy slightly dower, I have to admit that I have however, read Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
I fib, I saw it on T.V.

This strange little bridge has a story.
There used to be a plaque on the stonework warning that anyone tampering with the bridge would be transported to Australia.

2010 and no plaque.
Camera in hand and ready to snap and show you.
The bridge is intact but someone has had it away with the plaque.........

Shall we move on ?

Not before I tell you that the 17th Century gabled Woolbridge Manor House that stands beside the River Frome is where Tess of the d'Vubervilles spent her honeymoon in Hardy's novel.

Back to the river Frome.
Shame on me for forgetting the name.
I didn't have to find a map to name the river guys, I googled it.
Can I just give you a link here to Melanie from Jellybean.
She will welcome all your good thoughts.
She also has a great blog and like Soggibottom loves to share the places that she visits and see's in her travels.

Thomas Hardy would have been horified.................. yes...... Amie did !
Ladies can only hold it for so long !

These photos are so awsome, they look like pictures from a fairy tale and are too spectacular to be real places. I have never seen such beauty and I feel the air must feel so good- and everything looks so peaceful and calm
thank you for sharing the beauty

A village called Wool - how funny is that, I LOVE it! I dearly love English village names.
I have never seen or read about Tess. How remiss of me....but I probably won't read it. I'm stuck on murder mysteries.

How odd that the plaque is gone - maybe no longer politically correct?

Amie, nobody can hold it next to a river. All that flowing water is so suggestive.

I'm very envious of your latest excursions - lovely countryside. I read Tess while at school and loved it, although the tv adaptation made me want to shake her till her teeth rattled for being so dim!
Never mind Amie, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do...there is a James Bond film based in Korea that was actually filmed up the road from us. When I watch it, I can see the jeep that my dog weed all over when we went up to have a look at the film set....

(I think I really ought to live in Wool....)

I bet I know why they took the plaque down - too many people were taking advantage of the offer of being transported to Australia!

That's the first thought that crossed my mind Lynda :-)

*laughs* You're a riot! I love the fib... I think a lot of people might make such a fib.

Perhaps the plaque was found to be tampering with the bridge... and deported to Australia?

I am a Doctor Who fan, lol.
Never saw that program.

I want to bring my bike and ride all over those roads and hills, so beautiful.
