Thunder Birds

If you've clicked on Soggibottom and expected to see Tracy Island, sorry they aren't the Thunder birds that have been seen in the tree's at the front of the cottage.

As interesting as Thunder birds and Tracy Island might have been to me at one time, I now find this bird much more interesting. This is a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

We don't have one that visits we have two. Our camera isn't that good at taking longer shots.
Woodpeckers are said to be more active before a storm why they are also known as Thunder birds.
These two are frightened easily so we keep our distance and mostly admire them from the cottage window.

For a change, it's a clear, crisp, cold, blue sky day here.
Not a storm in sight yet they are both outside of the tree's.
You will have to take my word for it that they are there.

Two legs, Paws and Claws, everyone needs good thoughts.
My thought of today, we need more bird seed.

  1. Beautiful bird. Our woodpecker likes the sides of our house, so we have to chase him away.

  2. I remember hearing then seeing this type of woodpecker in our wood. I had been looking for a green thing then got the book out. :-) There were also tree creepers in that part of the wood and red starts flying past.

  3. What a beautiful bird! We had a
    different type of woodpecker in
one of our trees, in TX, when
we were last down there. I was
over on Facebook last night and
saw where you had trouble on PP,
just e-mail me and I will help
all I can! Have a great week!

  4. I've never heard of a woodpecker called that before, nor did I know that they are more active just before a storm! Thanks for that tidbit! 8-)

  5. We haven't seen a woodpecker here but we did have them when we lived in Connecticut. They used to drive the dogs crazy with the sound. The Thunder bird is very beautiful.

  7. I hadn't heard that about woodpeckers before either - fascinating stuff! I have one that visits my nut feeder every day; he fights anything else (including a squirrel) that tries to get any when he's there. He's so pretty I forgive him and the other birds just hang around waiting for him to clear orf again.

  10. I didn't know that about the woodpecker - we have a few but they are pretty ellusive. I see flocks of the green ones around and about though.

  12. How lucky you are to see woodpeckers. I get excited when a male cardinal lands in the trees outside my window:).

  15. Little Woody the Wood Pecker
    he is so cute,
    and he needs more seeds?
    If I could,
    I would,
    yes I would
send you a barrel of seeds.
    Maybe it could float
    in the mighty seas
    or maybe a big bird
    could fly it over
    if I could
    I would.
    Woody is so pretty
    and you capture such magic.
thank you for sharing your world
    with us
    love
    tweedles
ps a mighty beautiful bear, he might be sad to leave your home
